THE SOUND OF SUCCESS:
SMART DATA COLLECTION.
"How can I help you?" With her trademark friendly welcome, Siri competes with the likes of Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for the attention of millions of smartphone users. Their mission: to make your day run smoothly. On every level. And these smart language assistants really heed your words. At least, they're getting better at it all the time. They grab the information you request from the web, operate apps and keep close control over your Smart Home software. Digitalisation has arrived in our everyday lives. There is no doubt that voice-controlled assistance software is moving into increasingly complex areas of application, and not just for private use. It also serves to make workflows and processes as user-friendly as possible.
FIELD WORK 4.0.
FROM THE CLIPBOARD TO A SECURE SOLUTION.
Digitalisation is invariably as good as the people using it. That’s why the transformation of innovative technology for the world of work is not about replacing people, but about making qualified, skilled personnel even better. Just like smatrix: the software applies language as a principle for easing the workload. This makes it ideal for virtually any application where data is collected.
For instance, smatrix has already improved the performance of one target group in the area of Crop Science. Whether plant breeding, trials of varieties and active substances or performance testing – classic field trials rely on experienced specialists examining and evaluating relevant plant criteria so that the experts in product development can analyse and process these indicators. The data are recorded by hand or entered into a computer. This is where humans come up against their natural limits. Simply put: we only have two hands. So we are constantly jumping back and forth between the plant assessment and evaluation, on the one hand, and the necessary data documentation on the other. The upshot is that the data collection process is always being interrupted. Not only is this time-consuming, it is also frustrating, exhausting and leads to errors. And hand on heart: those who have spent any time conducting field trials know that factors beyond their control can also interfere with their work. The position of the sun, wind and rain are just a few of the typical complications of collecting data via paper or monitor.
With smatrix, hands and eyes remain focused on the essentials – trial results are dictated directly into a digital table. The navigation also works completely by voice input. All the senses are fully focused on professionally assessing of the trial object, with no need to switch between object and clipboard, writing pad or tablet. As for the wind and sun – they are of no concern when using the complete solution for voice-supported software.
HANDS AND EYES FREE.
FOR CLARITY OF MIND.
smatrix means letting go. Both literally and figuratively. Of course, the first contact with interactive, digital assistance systems is unusual at first. But using them is a logical step – and it comes naturally. Manual data entry is being replaced by our most defining human skill: language. When you take this leap, you experience cognitively and physically that hands-free data entry without looking back and forth at the monitor or clipboard is not only possible, but intuitive. Above all, the adjustment process is far simpler than you might expect. This was the experience of Yannick S., a field trial technician in arable farming: "Finally, I have both hands free while conducting trials and can work much faster and with fewer errors, because the data is securely transferred to an Excel file. There's hardly any extra work to be done in the office either."
DO YOU SPEAK EXCEL?
SMATRIX SPEAKS EVERYTHING.
For technical systems to fulfil their purpose, they must make work demonstrably simpler and processes and workflows noticeably easier for human users. That’s why smatrix is not a software solution that requires standardised processes. Rather, smatrix is a flexible solution that can handle any application area and any table structure. After all, workflows vary from customer to customer. The basis is a speech dialogue that is individually adapted to the required workflow – case by case, so the respective user can continue to work exactly the way they are used to. And all this applies regardless of whether the table to be filled via voice originates from some trial software or was created entirely freely in Excel.
As with all relevant developments, adaptability is key here as well. This goes for the table structure and language – smatrix is currently available in German, English, French, Spanish and Dutch – as well as the platform used. In addition to the currently dominant Windows operating system, a streamlined Android version has recently been added, thus meeting the increasing demand for alternative operating systems.
LISTENING IS AN ART.
FOR US, IT’S ALSO A SCIENCE.
We see ourselves as a mouthpiece for our customers, interpreting market-specific needs and trends via technology. For the trial process described, the key to success lies in the voice-supported collection of the trial data. Using voice input is what allows users to concentrate fully on their core competence – the expert assessment of the trial results for each individual plant in the trial.
Important: Offline operation guarantees that maximum data quality goes hand in hand with maximum data security. Moreover, smatrix is not just a complete solution that ensures high data quality and quicker deployment in testing and inspection for agriculture, forestry, viticulture and fish farming. The number of professional application areas is unlimited, and therefore of interest to many sectors.
The user interface continues to be developed with users in practical settings to provide optimum and intuitive operability for every potential user. Indeed, smatrix can be operated flawlessly anytime and anywhere. In principle, once smatrix users have been individually configured, all they need to enter new values and codes or navigate the software is their voice. This makes smatrix a unique solution by definition.
